I had the privilege of teaching personal evangelism in one of the “City Impact Tracks” last weekend at “My City Youth Conference!” The conference was AMAZING to say the least as God touched so many lives & awakened a spiritual army to impact Sacramento with the love of Jesus!
Here were my notes…
As I boarded the plane for my four-hour flight across the country, I found myself sitting next to a middle-aged man who I’d never met before & knew nothing about. As the engines roared & we lifted off the ground, I prayed quick prayer in my head, “Father give me an opportunity to share Your love with this man!” Nothing happened for about the first two hours in as it was clear he wasn’t interested in talking. Then suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder. He looked at me & shared that he had a bad back-ache and wondered if I had any Aleve. In my mind, I’m thinking “This is the opportunity I prayed for.!” I say, “Yes, I have some Aleve, but I believe God can heal you right now if we just pray! Can I pray with you?” He responds with an odd look & said “No one has ever prayed with me before, but sure why not.” So I began to pray a simple prayer of faith – binding his back-pain and loosening healing in Jesus name! I was excited because I love to see God work in people’s lives who have never experienced His healing power before! After saying “Amen,” I asked him how his back felt. He told me, “It Actually feels better!” From there, I got to share my testimony with him of how Jesus had changed my life! This man did not even know who Jesus was before our meeting! At the end of our conversation he said that he had a lot to think about in regards to a relationship with God! I gave him my card with my email address in case he ever needed prayer or had any questions! I was so excited because that’s just one more person that I had the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with and plant God’s seed in their heart! I pray that God continues to water that seed and this man comes to know Jesus!
1. Stay close to the Father!
“Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be amazed.” John 5:19-20
Q How did Jesus see what the Father was doing and how can we see what the Father is doing?
It’s all about the secret place, it’s about abiding in the Father’s love! Check this out…
Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Luke 5:16
“Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.” Mark 1:35
Jesus hung out with the Father! It was a top priority! If you desire to change lives like Jesus did, then you must hang out with the Father like Jesus did! The more you hang out with Him the more you look and act like him. You begin to see people through a new lens – His lens! You begin to see the broken areas of people’s lives, even if you’ve never met them, simply because you see what God sees. You will have love and compassion for people like never before because you are hanging out with the one who is love! Stay close to Jesus & He will guide you for maximum impact!
“Whoever belongs to God hears what God says…” John 8:47
2. Know your testimony(s) and be ready to speak it out!
“For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy”. Revelation 19:10
The word “Testimony” in Hebrew means “To do again!” This means when you are sharing your testimony of what Jesus has done in your life, you are prophesying that it is going to be done again in their life! Your testimony is powerful! When God does something in your life tell people about it!
There are two questions to answer in sharing your testimony:
Q What was your life like before you knew Jesus or a situation/circumstance? Q What has your life been like after you met Jesus or a circumstance that Jesus changed.
In a nut-shell, prophecy is hearing God’s voice & giving a message to someone else to encourage or instruct them.
“For you can all prophesy in turn so that everyone may be instructed and encouraged.” 1 Corinthians 14:31
So how can you know for sure if you’re hearing Gods voice? Just go through some training! For example, ask God to tell you who the next person to walk in the room will be? Ask him “What song will come on next on the radio or who the teacher is going to call on next in class?” This may seem silly, but this will help you in learning to hear God’s voice and you will begin to grow in confidence when you know He’s speaking to you to do or say something!
God may even give you pictures in your mind when you are praying for someone or one word for someone or a specific scripture verse! It’s super exciting! And honestly people love hearing words from God that are encouraging and that help them in life!
A few weeks ago I was speaking at Laguna Creek Christian club. At the end, during prayer God gave me just one prophetic word at first for a student and then more prophetic words just kept flowing for more students. Because of one of the prophetic words I shared, a girl was super encouraged with tears in her eyes. She felt so loved by God to call her out and encourage her like that! She started coming to our youth ministry, she then got saved and just last week testified at Christian club about what God has done in her life and the joy that she is walking in!
We must realize we have a serious duty to tell others about Jesus! Lives are at stake! Switch your mindset from “I’m going to offend someone,” to “The gift of God I have in and through Christ is so powerful and life changing & SAVING that other people must know about it & have the opportunity to receive it!” Pray for Holy Spirit boldness and opportunities! – Julie
