I had lots of fun shopping at the mall last weekend where I used some of my gift cards from Christmas! I went into one of my favorite stores “Sephora,” where a sales associate asked me if I needed any help finding anything. At the moment she asked me, I felt God tug on my heart and give me compassion for this woman. I felt God giving me insight into her life and I saw she was very hurt and broken. As I asked her a few questions about the item I was looking at, God’s prompting became so strong that I knew I needed to tell this woman about God’s love for her and ask her if there was something I could pray for her about.
When she was finished telling me all about the product, I said “I know this may sound kind of weird, but I just need to tell you how much God loves you, how much he cares deeply for you and that he has such a beautiful plan for your life.”
After I said this, she stood silent with her mouth wide open for a moment and then with moist eyes said to me, “How did you know to say something to me?” I said, “God has been prompting me the whole time you have been talking to tell you His words of love for you. He showed me you are going through a difficult time and that you need to be encouraged.” I told her I would keep her in my prayers and to believe that God can do anything in her life!
With that, she began to open up all about her life and how she had just gone through a devastating divorce and she poured out her prayer requests. Before I left the store she was giving me her email address and I was inviting her to my church! It was a divine encounter!
As I walked out of the store that day and said good-bye, God reminded me that in one encounter with someone, I am to be a spring. When I first looked into this woman’s eyes she looked as though she was going to pass out, depressed and worn out by life’s troubles. But as I was walking out she was cheerfully saying good-bye and looked like a different person as her countenance had changed from depressed to hope-infused!
We are placed here by God to be springs in the mist of a wilderness.
I am challenged daily to draw closer to God and rest in His presence because that is where I find comfort, peace, love, joy, fulfillment, direction and a burden for the lost and hurting! As I do, I know God will flow through me as His spring of living water giving hope and encouragement to those around me! His presence is so sweet, wonderful and fulfilling!
I challenge you this new year to draw closer to Jesus, to meditate on His word and believe what it says about you! Be a spring of living water that gives life and refreshment to those around you! Whose life are you going to change today?
John 4:13-14 Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life. – Julie
