What exactly is worship anyway? We tend to use the word rather loosely don’t we? I mean, if you had just landed here from Mars & crawled into to a Justin Bieber concert, you would probably think that the masses were worshipping him as God of the universe! If you don’t believe me, see the video below!
Can Justin Bieber save us from our sin? Is he consumed with love for us? Does he hear our prayers? Can he provide for us? Does he even know our names? The answers are obvious! While people try & fill their God-shaped holes by worshipping the Creator’s creations, the only thing worthy of worship in this world is the Creator himself – who did save us from our sin, who is consumed with love for us, who does hear our prayers, who can provide for us & who knew our names even before he created the earth!!
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
In light of this truth, I believe that true worship to God is…
1. A life style
“I will praise you as long as I live, lifting up my hands to you in prayer.” Psalm 63:4
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.” Romans 12:1
2. From the heart
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30
“Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24
“Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; praise him with strings and flutes! Praise him with a clash of cymbals; praise him with loud clanging cymbals. Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!” Psalm 150:4-6
“Shout to the Lord, all the earth; break out in praise and sing for joy! Sing your praise to the Lord with the harp, with the harp and melodious song, with trumpets and the sound of the ram’s horn. Make a joyful symphony before the Lord, the King! Psalm 98:4-6
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” Colossians 3:23
“Play skillfully, and shout for joy.” Psalm 33:3
